Friday, April 3, 2020: Red Mountain Park Foundation is pleased to announce Lauren Spalding as Red Mountain Park’s new Director of Membership.

Spalding will work to grow the Park’s base of member support. As director of membership, she will work with the Park’s members, the RMP Junior Board, and other park fans like walkers, hikers, trail runners, mountain bikers, birders, historians, geologists, and more to create fun, engaging, and educational member programming.

Spalding joins Red Mountain Park after 7 years in development and alumni relations at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her last role was Director of Alumni Relations at the School of Public Health.

“I am a firm believer in the mental and physical health benefits of time spent in nature. I frequently enjoy those benefits at Red Mountain Park with my cairn terrier, Brody, who loves a nice, long hike.” Spalding said.

“Membership is a key component of the Park’s sustainability. We rely on the folks who enjoy and frequent the park the most to ensure it continues to be free and open to all. I’m excited to see how Lauren can use her expertise to grow what our membership offering looks like at Red Mountain Park.” said executive director T.C. McLemore.

The Park is currently seeing an uptick in guests while also experiencing a reduction in earned revenue and staff capacity. Membership is more important than ever in sustaining this essential greenspace.

Red Mountain Park is public-private partnership between the Red Mountain Greenway and Recreational Area Commission and the Red Mountain Park Foundation. Through a combination of donor support and public investment, the park has been open and free to the public since 2012. The park offers 1,500 wooded acres located in Birmingham, 3 miles west of I-65 (Lakeshore Parkway Exit #255).
